Vaud / Winegrowers

Description of the offer

The Fauquex family originates from Riex and Lutry. The family estate dates back to Antonatus Fauquex, who lived in 1380!

Charles-Frédéric Fauquex (1898-1976), 15th of the name and Denis' grandfather, was not only a winegrower, but also an important and well-known politician. First, he was syndic (mayor) of the village of Riex from 1926 to 1948, a total of 22 years. He then moved to Bern, at federal level. National Councillor (deputy) from 1935 to 1945, he was then State Councillor (senator) from 1945 to 1963. Before retiring, he held the supreme office of President of this chamber. Charles-Frédéric had three sons, including Frédéric-Louis (1927-1993), the 16th of his name, who succeeded him at the head of the estate.

In 1993, following Frédéric's death as a bachelor, his nephew Denis, born in 1967 and 17th of the name, took over the Fauquex estate. After completing an apprenticeship as a wine merchant from 1983 to 1986, Denis studied viticulture and oenology at the Changins engineering school from 1988 to 1990. Married to Laurence in 1997, he is the father of two daughters, Clara, born in 1997, and Emilie, born in 2000. Following Denis's death in September 2020, Laurence took over the estate with the help of Alizée Bujard, labourer, and Ludovic Lin, wine merchant.

The Fauquex family is delighted to present their products on this site, but also to tell you about their passion for the noble products of Lavaux, and the life of a happy winegrowing family, typical of this beautiful region. Domaine Denis Fauquex is located entirely in the Lavaux region, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The 4 hectares are planted 88% with Chasselas grapes from four different terroirs and 12% with red grapes from two very different varieties. The particularity of Chasselas is that it produces wines that are highly characteristic of the terroir from which they originate, giving rise to fascinating tastings between professionals, as well as informed amateurs!
